“A journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step” .. unknown.

When I first thought about running a marathon, I didn’t believe that I could do it.  I couldn’t even run a mile at that point – how would I ever run 26.2 of them! But, since “Run a Marathon” was on my life’s to-do list, I went outside and ran until I couldn’t run any longer.  That got me about half way down the block.  The next day I couldn’t walk, much less run, but I went out and ran a few blocks further.  Then, more and more until I could run a mile, then two.  Pretty soon I was able to run five or six miles without stopping.  And about eight months after that first time I had gone out running, I ran my first marathon.  I followed a schedule similar to the one I published yesterday and just stuck to it. 

So, even if you are not a runner but you want to be, just resolve to get up, get outside and start runing!  And remember that even a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. Now go out there and take that first step!

The NYC Marathon is in 125 days

On the first Sunday in November, I will be running the NYC Marathon!  Today is day 1 of the 18 week training program I am going to use to train.  I have modified a schedule from the NYRR.ORG site for a casual marathoner starting with a 20-ish mile per week base and will follow this schedule for the next 18 weeks:
